Here is an ancestral clearing prayer for insomnia.
Oh Higher Power, Great Divine Spirit, God, Infinite, Oneness, Holy Mother – You are known by many names and You are One. We thank You for loving us and blessing us with Your grace. We ask humbly, for all our ancestors through all space, time, dimension, all realms, and incarnations:
For bouts of insomnia, for feelings of not being able to handle ourselves or life if we didn’t get the sleep we craved, and for the times we blamed others or You for sleeplessness – please help us all to forgive each other and ourselves. Please and thank You.
For the times when we felt the fury of fire, wind, thunder and lightning, or any other environmental tragedy befall us; for any time intruders came at night, for any transgressions we experienced during the night, for any time we were violated in any way, and for any times any of us did this to others – please help us all to forgive each other and forgive ourselves. Please and thank You.
For the times we were beset with worry for our loved ones, for the humanity, for the earth, for ourselves, and for all the hours of sleep we lost because of it and for the times we were overwhelmed with the feeling of scarcity of resources of any kind – please help us all to forgive each other and ourselves. Please and thank You.
For the times we felt lost in darkness, whether in the night or in our souls, for the times we cried out overcome by shadow – “where is everyone?” and “where are You, God?” – and all the heartache and anguish we felt as a result, all we made it mean about ourselves, our family and loved one, our community, life, and even You, Higher Power – please help us all to forgive one another and ourselves. Please forgive us for turning our backs on You.
Please help us to find the peace waiting for us deep in our souls. Help us to find our way in the darkness. Help us to find You when we have lost our way. Remind us that we are never alone, but of a sea of humanity, of life, of Universe, and that we are always connected. Please and thank You.
Please help us transform the seed of doubt into trust in You and let this always be our inner knowing. Please and thank You.
Help us to pray for and find peace with our enemies – both real and imagined. Help us to help each other. Help us to see each other the way You see us – with love, compassion, and forgiveness. Now and forever.
